Barrister Salman Safdar

Barrister Salman Safdar is a law graduate from London School of Economics & Political Sciences and was called to the Bar from the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, United Kingdom in the year 1999. As part of his training, Salman Safdar worked with various eminent Barristers and conducted several trials in the Crown Courts of England. He completed his pupilage at two renowned law firms in the United Kingdom, Miles and Co and Miles and Partners.

Upon returning to Pakistan in 2000, he had the Honour of working with Senior Advocate Supreme Court, Mr. Khawaja Sultan Ahmad, under whose guidance and pupilage he further refined the art of cross-examination and advocacy skills. Contributing to both trial and appellate work, Salman began building a reputation of a staunch opponent in Court, with exceptional advocacy skills.

In early 2002 Salman began working independently in his own Chamber and in a short span of time, the Chamber earned a good repute for its expertise and professionalism amongst both the bench and the bar. The Chamber specialized in criminal litigation, with expertise in the newly developing anti-terror and financial crime sector.

In 2004 the Government, through Ministry of Law & Human Rights Division, appointed Salman as a Special Prosecutor for Anti-Terrorism cases in the Province of Punjab recognizing his ability to work under pressure and take on cases that most lawyers would normally avoid. His competence was appreciated by the Honorable Judges of the High Court and he maintained several convictions in a system where appeals are more likely to be admitted that not

Salman’s experience as a prosecutor in Anti-Terrorism cases has given him insight into arrest, investigation and trial procedures. He realizes the failings of the system and where it is at the weakest. In light of his experience, he is often invited as a policy commentator and consultant in suggesting and amending the current statute.

Barrister Salman Safdar is a Lecturer of Criminal Law at LGS University and previously taught the same at University College Lahore (UCL) and the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). Barrister Salman Safdar deeply enjoys his teaching engagements and believes it his duty to impart his experience as a criminal lawyer to the next generation of criminal lawyers so that he can play his part in shaping the future of criminal litigation in Pakistan. He is also regularly invited by the High Court Bar Association to lecture practicing lawyers on advocacy skills and specific topics in criminal law.

Realizing the difficulties faced by appellate prosecutors, Salman began his foray in to training prosecutors and police officials to improve the general standard of criminal prosecutions in Pakistan. His contributions were recognized when he was taken upon as a consultant by the US Embassy in the Access to Justice Program. Concurrently, he conducted police investigation trainings, workshops on forensic legal regime and lectures at the Punjab Judicial Academy. He is one of the few experts on Prosecution development in the country and regularly conducts lectures and workshops on criminal procedure, evidence and advocacy skills.

His experience includes legal representation in over 3000 murder cases and innumerable high profile criminal cases. Advising clients on immigration matters also falls within his specialization and expertise. Salman was given the “Outstanding Performance Award” by the Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan in 2006 at Lahore.

Mazhar Ali Haider

B.A; L.L.B (Quaid-e-Azam College of Law)

Mazhar is a graduate of Quaid-e-Azam College of Law and is a licensed Advocate of the lower Courts. He specializes in dealing with Violent Crime cases and has vast experience in cases involving murder, terrorism, sexual offences, financial crime, and corruption. Having excelled as a litigator and having a holistic understanding of the lower Court, Mazhar handles the Chamber’s litigation in all lower Courts and regularly appears in murder and terrorism trials.

Mazhar possesses a broad understanding of every stage of the criminal trial, beginning from the investigation up till the final stages of the trial. Having monitored a multitude of police investigations in criminal cases involving heinous offences, Mazhar, due to his experience, is in an ideal position to be able to guide and assist our clients during the investigation stage. He is acutely aware of the methodology of the police and is able to formulate a tailor-made strategy that fits the client.

Mazhar appeared on the Chamber’s behalf in the Model Town Massacre case on behalf of the defense in the Anti-Terrorism Court and monitored the trial whilst assisting Barrister Salman Safdar during cross-examination and arguments. Mazhar also assisted Barrister Salman Safdar in defending Mr. Abid Raza (MNA) in the High Court.

Ahmed Raza Kazim

L.L.B Hons (University of London)

Mr. Ahmed Raza Kazim graduated from University of London with a Roll of Honour in 2020 following which he joined the Chamber of Barrister Salman Safdar. Mr. Ahmed Raza Kazim has been associated with the Chamber since 2018, initially in the capacity of an Intern and having completed his Degree has been promoted to the position to an Associate. Mr. Ahmed Raza Kazim has assisted Barrister Salman Safdar on notable cases like The Khadija Siddiqui Case, Orange Line Case, Jehangir Khan Tareen JDW Case and Ephedrine Case. Mr. Ahmed Raza Kazim has a keen interest in White Collar Crime Litigation and deals with matters relating to NAB Reference, Corporate Fraud, Dishonoring Of Cheques under Section 489 F PPC 1860 and is also a certified Mediator registered in the UK and Singapore for Mediation practice.

Tazmeen Mehdi

L.L.B Hons (University of London)

Miss Tazmeen Mehdi completed her LLB Honours from University of London in year 2020, after which she joined the Chamber of Barrister Salman Safdar as an associate. Ever since her joining, Miss Tazmeen has dealt with matters of Cyber-Crime, Bullying Harassment, Violence against women including Acid Attacks, Domestic Violence, Emotional Abuse and Money Laundering Alongside, matters pertaining to Force Majeure Clauses in the wake of Corona Pandemic. Miss Tazmeen has assisted Barrister Salman Safdar, on notable cases such as General Pervaiz Musharraf High Treason Case, FIA, and other confidential cases which provided justice to both Influential and Common women who were subjected to domestic violence.

Umair Ashraf

B.A; L.L.B (University of the Punjab)

Mr. Umair Ashraf completed his LLB Degree from Punjab University in 2017, following which he obtained his license to practice in Lower Courts. Mr. Umair joined the Chamber in 2019 after realizing his keen interest in Criminal Litigation. Mr. Umair Ashraf deals with Anti-Terrorism Cases of the firm and appears in Anti-Terrorism cases on a regular basis. Mr. Umair Ashraf is currently assisting Barrister Salman Safdar on notable cases like the Model Town Case and Ashiana Arson Case along many other cases as well. Moreover, Mr. Umair Ashraf also deals with Inter-City Cases of the firm visiting Islamabad, Peshawar, Bannu, Hangu and Karak on regular basis.
